LIBRARY NEWS

Summer is almost over and what a summer it has been at the library. We had telephone problems for almost a month in July. That did not stop us from running the summer reading program “Catch the Reading Bug”.  55 children signed up for the program in July. Approximately 640 books were read by the 51 children who received certificates in August for participating in the program. We served ice-cream to 49 children. 40 children between Kindergarten and Eighth grade received free passes into the Champlain Valley Fair for taking part in the “Read to Win” program sponsored by the Fair. .

Our THANKS go to A&B BEVERAGE, VERMONT DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARIES, THE CHAMPLAIN VALLEY EXPOSITION AND ALL OF THE SPONSORS who made it possible to keep our children reading all summer long.

We will pause, catch our breath, and do some straightening up in the library for the next few weeks. Watch for information on our usual fall programming if you are interested in knitting and/or sewing. If you have an idea for a program we could provide, please contact us. We would like ideas from those interested in starting a book club. Anyone interested in starting a Friends of the Library group is encouraged to step up and let us know about your ideas. Your tax dollars provide the community with this library. Please let us know how you would like to see meet your needs.

Your library card is free. Your benefits are Best Seller books, Internet access, books on tape and CD. We also have donations of puzzles, magazines and a few games, movies on VHS and DVD. All are available for checking out for two weeks.

The beginning of the school year is a great time to round up library books and materials for return. Items may be put into the book drop on off hours. Please make sure the material belongs to the Grand Isle Free Library and that all discs or tapes are returned. If you have materials checked out from other libraries, please make sure to return them in a timely manner.

BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY

BOOK RETURNS: All books may be dropped in the book return. NO Videos, CD's, DVD's, or Audio Tapes please. Now that cold weather is here these items get brittle and break when a book falls on them. Please try to bring them into the library where it's warm. Thank You.

OVERDUE BOOKS: Book roundup time is here. Please return overdue items to the library. We are trying to bar code our materials and they must be in hand to do so. If you haven't come in for a new library card with a bar code, please do so. We would like to get all of our patrons into the computer system. Please check for overdue books and materials and return them to the library. We do not charge fines, no matter how overdue the item is, but we will be billing people for un-returned items.

We also have some VHS and DVD programs, audio books for your
listening pleasure, and magazines and puzzles.

If you have titles of good books you would like to see in the library,
