This appointed officer is the first person contacted when property
development is proposed or when someone has a complaint. The ZAO acts
as the Town's public relations person as well as the "complaint
department", educates the public regarding municipal bylaws, the
benefits of and need for local zoning regulations and assists applicants
through the sometimes confusing process.
The Planning and Zoning department is essentially
two separate entities. They have different functions, though they work
closely together.
The Planning responsibilities are how the Town develops, enforcing
current subdivision regulations, implementation of the Town Plan
recommendations, and monitoring a controlled orderly growth.
The Zoning function is to enforce that
the zoning bylaws. They issue building permits, certificates of
occupancy, and zoning enforcement. The function of zoning is to ensure
that all growth in our town uses the same guidelines for developing
property to achieve a pleasingly esthetic environment for all.
